Dax is a 4 year old dachshund By Edward de Beukelaer, UK
This is what the owner tells me:
‘’He has become worried at having his feet touched, since he had a bad experience at the dog groomers. He turned around and snapped when was stroked when asleep. He is also becoming more and more food obsessed. He watches the other dog eating and he has been known to dart through the other dog’s legs to snatch its food. The other dog once flipped him on his back for taking a bone, he is carful now.
He used to be chilled when picked up. But recently he puts himself on his back as if submitting to another dog and then decided to bite the dog from this position. He is barking more at everything. He has become anxious. He bit Mrs, when she tried to remove a bone. He did not used to do this.
He ignores big dogs and like dogs his size. He likes people and snuggles up. He follows us around most of the day: he wants to know where we are. He howls when we leave the house. He hurts himself jumping at the door. He has become more clingy: he needs recomforting, reassurance. He will be licking your arm or knee all the time, methodically repetitive. It has to do with the other dog: she is much bigger hence gets attention easier. He comes bounding behind her, me - me - me!
He has drifted from being Mrs’ dog to Mr’s dog. When Mr goes away, he assumes the guard positions and he watches the door. He is a fantastic guard dog. He guards our property. When I told a teenager off for littering and this teenager started to become unpleasant, Dax lunged for his face.
The other dog has become top dog, since then he is less playful. It is anxiety related, adrenaline all the time, food
and being left alone, he cannot stand being by himself. He has a happy disposition. He makes friends with dogs after a while, he finishes by loving them. He is loving to our other dog as well. He is often a grumpy old man and want to be left alone. He takes the surrounded protection of his crate. He used to protect all his teddies in his crate but that has worn off and he does not bother about them so much now. He does bring them to you when you come in.
His tennis ball is like crack cocaine for him. He keeps bringing it back till he is completely exhausted and falls asleep with the ball in his mouth. He will find a tennis ball everywhere we go – he is obsessed. We have to take the
tennis ball of which releases him.
Never been ill for scavenging. He has hurt his back twice but it went with a little Metacam.
He is confident till somebody says boo. He walks past the cat without noticing her and then suddenly notices her and squeals and runs off. He is super confident with a very low self-esteem. He would like to be self-confident and socially friendly like our other dog is.
If somebody is unwell, he is anxious and wants to be with you; he is comforting: ‘I am here for you’. He is very family orientated and decides who is in the family. He is a
