hunting trap having smashed both sides of the arm into the bone and most tendons (and main nerves) have been cut completely. She seemed not too feel anything lower than the injury and couldn't move (R4) or use the foot at all, really a case for a final decision or amputation.
As she was generally in such a good shape and willing to live, we refused to euthanize her and took her home after giving her Arnica 200 C at first for the trauma of muscles, tendons,
properly for 2 more months, she often tumbled over with the cumbersome bandage. All the skin distally to the injury died and fell off, piece by piece. That is the end, was my fear, but she stayed happy, always eating and playing on 3 legs. The wounds had healed completely after 4 months, even the hair have grown perfectly on the initially completely missing skin.
Due to the missing tendons and nerves still after 2 months, she couldn't stretch the paw or
Niila is a stray cat, European short hair, born around April 2014.I like to share this case because even after 25 years, some results are astonishing.
Nila had a bad start in life. She was brought to our clinic at the age of probably 4 weeks and should have been euthanized because of an already 1 week old severe infected injury of the left forearm, which previously had been poorly treated by a colleague with antibiotics as the only treatment. The lady, who brought Niila in said that she found the cat alone in her holiday home in the South of Spain limping severely. A ceramic pot must have fallen down and hit her on the forearm. The injury looked more like a
nerves and soft tissue (R 8, 14, 15, 16).
Eight weeks went by after the initially twice-daily procedure of washing the foot in Calendula solution and Colloidal Silver water, followed by a cream bandage, which tolerated without any aggressive reaction or withdrawal. Did she have pain in the damaged foot or not is questionable but it was not paralysed. Initial remedies given alternatingly were hepar sulfuris D8 and Symphytum C30. She was a lovely girl and started to lift the arm a bit after some days already. 2 weeks later, we got another abandoned kitten in (same age, white coloured coat, male) and ever since they have loved each other. This might have helped her a lot, because the desire to play with him was immense. As she couldn't move the forearm
move the toes and it got more and more stiff and hard in a little angled position. (R 5,6,9,12). This problem got worse as she grew. X-rays showed no alterations.
She tolerated our massage and stretching of the joints as far as it was possible. Even if it was painful, she seemed to like the moderate pressure (symptom R7,10). She walked more on the backside of the hand and the leg was about 2 cm shorter than the other, so limping was logical result.
Because she had a increasing suckling tendency and lost her mother as a baby, got no milk till proper age, was shy towards strangers, loves milk .... I decided to give her Lac Felinum M once. It didn't do much good but the suckling got more excessive for many months.
