I discovered some years ago that I could reach the ‘essence’ of my patients more effectively if I put myself into a meditative state whilst taking the case. They seem to go to the realms of nonsense more easily. This is where the remedy is talking rather than the human. I do this easily by simply feeling the pressure of my feet on the floor as I sit with the patient. It is quite possible to conduct the consult effectively in this state. A palpable change occurs in the atmosphere. I was delighted that the pandemic demonstrated that this was also possible over zoom, where your patient might be on the other side of the world. I suppose I shouldn’t have been surprised – it’s all about energy isn’t it, and aren’t we energetic beings? I believe when Hahnemann talks of the ‘unprejudiced observer’, he means the physician in the now.
It is affirming when the basic tenets of homeopathy are mirrored by other philosophies. This is the case with Ekharte Tolle’s book ‘The Power of Now’.
Jeremy Sherr teaches that psora begins when we live our lives in the there-and-then, not the here-and-now. Humans spend their lives continually worrying about what we have done or will do – consequently we miss out on the only important moment we ever experience – the now.
This is the essence of Tolle’s book;
‘Identification with your mind causes thought to become compulsive. Not to be able to stop thinking is a dreadful affliction. This insistent mental noise prevents you from finding that
realm of inner stillness which is inseparable from being.’
As soon as we dwell in the past or future, we become prejudiced as to the present. Immediately we break Hahnemann’s rule number one and cease to be the unprejudiced observer. The moment judgement stops in acceptance of what is, you are free. Tolle gives some essential tips of how to be this unprejudiced observer when taking the case:
To relinquish judgement means you become the knowing one, rather than the reaction and the judge.
When listening to another person, don’t just listen with your mind, listen with your whole body. Feel the energy field of your inner body as you listen. That takes attention away from thinking and creates a still space that enables you to truly listen without the mind interfering. You are giving the other person space – space to be. It is the most precious gift you can give.
Feeling will get you closer to the truth of who you are than thinking. If you keep your attention in your body as much as possible you will be anchored in the now. You won’t lose yourself in the external world and you won’t lose yourself in your mind. Feel your whole body from within as a single field of energy. It is almost as if you were listening or reading with your whole body.
If you are fortunate enough to find someone who is intensely conscious, (hopefully the homeopath), if you can be with them and join them in the state of presence, that can be helpful and will accelerate things.
