touched. The owner says that Silvano never has vomited but she can hear loud bowel movements. Since the symptoms started he also has developed a shaggy fur coat and the hair hasn’t grown back after he had being shaved for knots in the fur.
Guided Case Taking
Stomach: aversions to raw meat, yoghurt and many things. He is also fussy about the exact brand he is fed. He doesn’t catch or eat mice but he plays with the ones that the other cat brings home. During the attacks of pain he dislikes dry food, but normally he likes it. Urination and defecation: cannot be observed, always done outdoors – no urine spraying in the house.
Sleep: he sleeps in various places and in the morning loves to lie on the owner’s bed, when she wakes up. Sometimes he sleeps at the foot end of the bed, but not in periods with abdominal pains.
Generals: he loves warmth but not great heat. In snow and rain he only goes outdoors for a short while.
Mind: it takes a lot for him to get angry but in situations that he completely dislikes (shearing), he can become a devil. When the former cat of the owner was sick, he didn’t care and he is no different to usual, when the owner is sick.
Hierarchisation
instead of an insecticide like Fipronil
• He continuously gains weight, eats well still and rarely has pain after eating
• He was in the emergency services of the animal hospital because of a cat bite and got antibiotics – no remedy given
• 5.11.07: since the cat bite more sensitive and dislikes being touched. Arn M
• 7.4.08: until a month ago in perfect health, since then the occasional colics. Coloc M
• 12.1.09: tangled hair -> shearing in general light anaesthesia and at the same time cleaning of teeth
• 4.2.10: painful back – very painful, doesn’t want to be touched on the sacral spine. No injuries seen, no fever. walks completely normally – injury of the spine? The owner already gave Arnica and Hepar sulph without relief. Cham XM
• 26.4.10: rabies vaccination because of travelling
• 29.9.10: hasn’t eaten since two days, is very quiet and neither eats nor drinks. Abdominal wall painful to the touch Coloc XM
• 26.5.14: never had anymore bowel or stomach symptoms, never sick but now patches of dermatomycosis since the owner moved to Germany. Nat m 200
Remarks
• Only with a complete case taking we can describe the totality of a patient. This owner never mentioned the quality of the pain (doubling up amel.) even after several “acute” consultations – luckily because only with an entire picture like this we see an example of the constitutional Colocynthis patient; and it’s through examples that we can learn about the behaviour and other symptoms of this remedy in animals
• I have at least one other case, where Colocynthis seems to be a good chronic simile. The other case was a dog that had attacks of IBD after sorrow, e.g. the absence of the owners • For some modalities one should not only look at the rubric in the physical chapters, but also check whether it is included in the chapter “Generals”. Colocynthis is in 3rd degree for
aggravation of motion during pain (Silvano doesn’t move anymore) in “Generals”, but not included in the chapters “Abdomen” or “Stomach”. The large symptoms should not be repertorised – but you see that the remedy is in 3rd degree (by Kent, Boenninghausen and Hering)
• The same is true for the modality that he doesn’t want to be touched during the pains (2nd degree in “Generals”)
• In the repertorisation we can see that Colocynthis isn’t the remedy with most points, but the remedy with most points in the relevant symptoms.
• Although the mind plays an important factor in this case, I didn’t chose the remedy based on the behaviour of the cat – but on the effect the mind has on the physical side
• In the last consultation the emotional state was troubled, but the physical answer was not intestinal but on the skin. Because of grief and “HEAD - HAIR - falling - spots, in” we chose Natrium mur instead of Colocynthis
• Even though it worked well this was not the simillimum but a good simile. A simillimum works in all circumstances except for injuries and acute exogenous miasms.

Follow up
• 14.7.07: Coloc 200
• 23.7.07: after the remedy he was more lively. After eating still sometimes he has pain, but instead of 20 minutes only two or three minutes. Last weekend it was worse again with anorexia, being irritable and retreating from company. Coloc M
• 8.8.07 much better, gains weight. He still sometimes has pains and hisses at the owner, but infrequently and for a much shorter period. He has fleas and the owner wants to get rid of them. We choose Luferunon (Program ®)
