New President’s Letter September 2020
When I started my journey in homeopathy 30 years ago, I felt like I was just satisfying a curiosity about this strange therapy that a couple of my friends were talking about. I thought I would just read some books, go to a couple of talks and that would be it – curiosity satisfied. How wrong could I have been! I also remember my first day on the HPTG course and being completely in awe of all the inspirational and knowledgeable tutors and realising perhaps for the first time, that this was something that was going to change my life.
It seems incredible that I now find myself as president of BAHVS, a position I didn’t even dream I would ever be in. Even more daunting having taken up the reins from Chris Day, someone who has probably had more impact on veterinary homeopathy in the UK than anyone else in the last 40 years!
This year has seen huge and unexpected changes, not only for us as an association but also for the veterinary profession as a whole. I hope that the next year or three doesn’t hold quite so many surprises for me. In fact, when I was asked to stand for the junior vice president’s role 3 years ago, I was assured that ‘I didn’t have to do much’, attend a couple of committee meetings, write an article or two for the magazine if I felt like it, nothing too onerous. So in complete naivety I accepted the offer and three weeks later the RCVS published their changes to their position statement on complementary therapies. Never has the term
