other cat we had, who was a bit domineering: he would push her out, when she came for some affection. We rehomed him and she was more settled: she had her territory back. She was a bit scared of the Guinea pigs and rabbits we had: they were free in the house. She watched them from a distance. She killed one mouse once and she brought it to us. She refuses to wear a collar: she takes it off immediately.
A new boyfriend moved in with a dog: a small wirehaired dachshund. They were both frightened of each other. She lived upstairs for three months. They finally got used to each other in the end, when we moved to a different house. The dachshund now comes to play with her but she looks at him: what are you doing?... and goes upstairs. She still spends most of her time upstairs.
I am the only one, who can pick her up. The boyfriend then says: I won’t put a hand out because she plays with her claws out. She may be purring and be happy and all of a sudden, the claws go in.
All the men that come in the house are frightened of her. To me (lady owner) she is not scary. But she can get cranky. When I put spot-on on her neck, she looked at me: what are you doing?... and smacked me. The lady who comes in the house twice per week can do everything with her when we are away.
When we came back once, she had diarrhoea for 2 days. She is too nervous to go in the cattery. When we go away, she poos everywhere upstairs and tries to pull out the carpet. We put aluminium foil down but she is only frightened, when we tear it off the roll, not when it is down.
She does not like noise in general. I sneeze and she runs out of the room. She gets used to people relatively easy and likes to participate. When you come in the room, she looks at you, sometimes with affection, sometimes with indifference.
It is like she scares herself, she is hesitant to have fun, she plays and she suddenly stops: she scares herself. My ex- boyfriend apologised thinking it is his fault. He is a fearful person and when Bindi went into the garden he would pop outside to see, whether she was safe and when she tried to explore, he would clap his hands to scare her, so she would come inside. She was a playful kitten initially but she was just a little timid about noises.
She hides a lot and she would hide behind the radiators. She is confident in many other ways. If you go up to her with confidence, she is fine. She knows when I am upset. When my aunt died, she came up behind me and put her paw on my back and stayed there for 20 minutes.
She misses my ex-boyfriend. He was at home all the time for 3 years with her.
Nearly all her life she has been running through the house like mental between 3 and 6 am: she taps on the window ledges, the cupboard or on the sink. I have the feeling that she does this on purpose. When I look at her, she comes to me and starts purring. We have to put her out of the room and then it eventually stops. She does not do it, when all the doors are open upstairs.
She does not like being picked up: she gets rigid and after 15 seconds she wants to go. When we have her on the bed and stroke her, she will finally relax and sleep almost like a child crying not knowing why. She is a princess and she is the boss. She will drink from a running tap or out of glasses only.’’
I prescribed Theridion 200C 2 doses.
Based on my notes, it was the sensitivity to and fear of noise, the tapping behaviour (spider) and being stiff, when picked up that made me decide to prescribe the remedy. I only checked the rubric anxiety about noise: Theridion stood out from the list of remedies for me in this case.
Why Theridion?
It is a remedy that is very sensitive to noises: they are penetrated by the noises. It is curious in this case to hear that she is worried about the noise of the aluminium foil being torn from the roll but not, when she can see it and it is down on the floor and she may walk on it (which also makes a noise). Also, there is not so much in the anamnesis about fear of noises. It is as if this sensitivity to noise (reason for consultation) is more important than all the other issues.
Also, I have delivered the case, as it was presented to me. The story is not always coherent. This sits with Theridion: they have an issue with not being themselves, when they are with somebody else: as if this person dominates them, as if the other person is in their head and controls them. (Note Theridion is a fruit spider and its only enemy is a wasp that lays an egg on its head. The larva will feed on the spider, which will live like a zombie until the larva has come to maturity). It is interesting that she would not wear a collar.
The owners say that they were amazed at the difference the remedy made for her. She got much more confident. She started to sleep on the bed again (no night agitation any more). And the noise sensitivity was much reduced.
Three years later ,she got a bit cranky again and started eating more and losing weight. Over the phone, I prescribe Theridion. The remedy had the same positive response as the first time.
