Dr. Anita Maria & Dr. Ernst Volker Schwan first IAVH certificate holders in South Africa
To be accepted as candidates they had to submit 10 cases, 4 weeks before the exam to the examiner and coordinator of Education Subcommittee, Stefan Kohlrausch, Germany.
The submission needed to be at least 3 chronic and 7 acute cases, with a minimum of 2 different species, treated with homeopathic single reme- dies. All cases were accepted as appropriate to the standards. Anita nice- ly illustrated some of the cases with before-and-after pictures. Repertorisations were made by using the Murphy repertory.
The exam was held in Pretoria, South African on 25/26 of October 2012. The first part of the written exam consisted of 70 mainly multiple- choice questions in relation to the theory of homeopathy, Hahnemann, Materia Medica, miasms, proved indications, key symptoms and Herings Laws. The allocated time for answering was limited to 90 minutes but the candidates finished within 70 minutes. Pass rate was 75%, which was not at all a problem for Anita and Volker. My special thanks to the new member of the educational sub-committee Minako Kuroda, Japan and Peter Gregory, UK, as well as to Gabriela Wallner, Hungary, for their col- laboration in making numerous proposals for the selection of exam ques- tions and to my wife, Heini, who translated the questions and gave them an appropriate format.
The second part of the written exam was on 2 acute and 1 chronic paper case (thanks to Jacques Millemann, France), which had to be analysed, repertorised and a remedy chosen – including homeopathic differential diagnosis – all within 90 minutes. Volker proved to be quick and confident in choosing rubrics and remedies, Anita, whom I know to be an experienced homeopath in practice, was a bit stressed in reper- torising under pressure with her brand new Radar Opus computer pro- gram but also passed the 75% mark.
The third part was the oral exam which comprised of two topics: dis- cussion of the 10 cases, along with questions concerning associated the- ory and knowledge in case-taking, case analysis, repertorisation and remedy choice. This was Anita’s domain and she passed with bravour and Volker was nearly as good.
After working very hard for 5 hours over 2 days in a friendly and collegial atmosphere, both of the candidates could be congratulated with a great result and having learned a lot in the process of the course and examina- tion. IAVH wishes you both ongoing success and joy in your homeopathic work.
Dr. Anita Maria Schwan, Switzerland has been working for many years in South Africa in her own veterinary clinic for pets in Pretoria, her hus- band Dr. Ernst Volker Schwan, Germany is mainly a teacher at The Veterinary University of Pretoria in the subject of parasites. Both have passed the British Homeopathic Veterinary Education starting in 2007 with John Saxton, Peter Gregory (both UK) and David Lilly (SA) as their main teachers. They live together in Pretoria with their 2 children, 3 dogs, a huge group of guinea pigs, tortoises, naked throat hens and goldfish, with a large, beautiful garden with lots of exotic plants, lemon trees, mul- berries, palms, bananas and cacti.
Thanks to you both for your lovely hospitality.

Dear colleagues,
On Saturday April the 6th 2013 we will be holding a workshop on the subject of the Veterinary Materia Medica during the 13th International Congress for Veterinary Medicine in Nuremberg (Germany).
Many years ago Jacques Millemann started working on this proj- ect. Amid lots of interest he only received help from a few but he still produced a large volume of work in French (subsequently translated into German), which he has generously left to the benefit of the IAVH.
At the beginning of this year, I accepted a request to take on the task of translating some of Jacque’s material into English. A few ‘reme- dies’ have already been sent out to you, the members of the IAVH. I hope you have read them and maybe even studied them. They were not all produced in the same format.
I’d like to ask you for feedback and also to make suggestions about what, in your view, this project should look like. What would motivate you to participate in this project, even if this means just contributing one idea or experience for one remedy only?
In Nuremberg we will discuss all these matters and agree on a for- mat and the technical aspects of the project.
Please send in your thoughts to the IAVH office on office@iavh.org as soon as possible.
Wishing you a good 2013.
Edward De Beukelaer Dr. Andreas Schmidt Markus Mayer
Dearest BAHVS Members,
Thank you AS EVER for all your wonderful support. This is our new ‘trial’ offer (instead of the 25% discount) and we’d be grateful if you would tell any interested clients about it. Please remember we are always happy to send you books and other free information to help explain raw feeding. If there’s anything else we can do please contact either of us direct.
Warmest regards/love (depending on how well we know you!) Vicky and Jonathan Founders, Honey’s Real Dog Food
