National Secretary’s Desk
I would like to congratulate our new National President, Brother Wayne Barnes, and National Commander, Brother
Paul Pennybacker, on their preferment and for their support with the National Office. We still have much to do at the
National Office and I look forward to working with both of these fine Brethren.
The Annual National Convention (ANC) was unique this year in that it was a “hybrid conference” of a in-person and virtual meet-
ing. Business was conducted, friendships renewed, new relationships created, and experiences distilled from activities that should be
actively taken into account in future ANCs. Two resolutions were passed this year and the rest were “tabled”. (Reference the ANC
proceedings on page 8).
SAVE THE DATE: The Mid-Winter Meeting (MWM) will be 10-12 JAN 2022 at the Crowne Plaza Baton Rouge, 4728 Constitu-
tion Ave, Baton Rouge, LA 70808. I have some basic information on the backside of The Sojourner and more is forthcoming. NASO-
COCO is working hard to bring you a new and refreshed way of registering online for the MWM. Stay tuned!
Those Chapters that have annual dues paying members should have already received their dues cards and I am confident the Secre-
taries have already started collecting dues. Remember if you do not want your Chapter to be invoiced for per capita for a particular
dues-paying member(s) in January, the Secretary MUST make arrangements with the National Office to remove them from your
Chapter roster no later than midnight (Eastern Time) 31 DEC of this year.
From what I have been told, secretaries have long awaited the ability to view and make changes for their members in the database. I
am excited to announce the “MMS Web App” is now available for both secretaries and members. This browser-based application is
currently being rolled out to the secretaries first and it will allow them to make important changes to their membership data. This is an
arduous task and I ask the secretaries for their patience, feedback and understanding because there may be glitches, but we will get
through it together. Beta testing has gone extremely well, but as we add more and more simultaneous users onto the application we
could encounter “growing pains” or “limitations” that we need to resolve. As the secretaries become accustomed to using the applica-
tion, additional features to the MMS Web application will be added. The ability to run Chapter specific reports like alpha rosters for
living/deceased members, living Heroes, former members, and living 3-6-5 members is planned for the next release or update to the
application.
The following Chapters have not submitted a Chapter Annual Return (CAR) as of this issue of The Sojourner. I am asking for help
from the Area and Regional Representatives to get this rectified as soon as possible. Waiting for the CARs and Officer Data Sheets
(ODS) not only causes frustration and confusion at the National Office but creates delays with the Staff Directory being published by
