                                                                         e Rogers

                     n-site visits with legislative representatives
are an integral part of sharing the positive
story of propane. The goal of an on-site visit
Ois to demonstrate the day-to-day operations
of a propane business, introduce industry workers,
and to influence policy makers to support the propane
industry. The most effective visits are those that affect
all the senses - where representatives can touch, feel,
and hear personal stories from those who work in the
propane industry each and every day. This provides a
more tangible and specific background to frame the
needs of their constituents and our industry. Visits
with local businesses and constituents are the best
way for representatives to understand the daily lives,
needs, and opinions of those they serve.
On Tuesday, August 13th, Blossman Gas
hosted Congressional Representative Mike D. Rogers
for an on-site tour of their office and bulk-plant facility
in Opelika, Alabama. Branch Manager, Bert Hallmark,
rolled out the red carpet and conducted the tour for
the 3rd Congressional District Representative. Con-
gressman Rogers currently serves as the Chairman of
the Armed Services Committee and has been a friend
to the propane industry for many years.

The tour began with Representative Rogers
meeting the retail location employees and learning
about the daily operations of the facility. Hallmark and
Rogers discussed the benefits of propane generators
and other popular appliances that are available at this
location. Other topics included new technology used
for tank monitoring, route scheduling and coverage
areas, as well as how those combine to help consum-
ers prepare for the winter months ahead.
Next, Hallmark took the group to their bulk-
plant facility situated next door to the Dixie Pipeline.
The close proximity to the pipeline is a unique feature
for a bulk plant facility. While visiting the plant, the
group discussed autogas, propanes many benefits, and
how propane can assist in promoting not only energy
security but our national security as well. As the group
was leaving, Groome Shuttle service arrived to refuel
their propane vehicles demonstrating the many solu-
tions propane dealers can provide to help fleet manag-
            ers transition to propane.
