In 1981 during the University of Mumbai’s post-centennial
silver jubilee celebrations the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ram Joshi,
approached the House of Garware for nancial support for
new educational ventures.

Career Education and Development
(GICED) was inaugurated on Saturday
27th October 1984 by Honorary Shri

efforts of Padmabhushan Shri
Abasaheb Garware and Prof. Ram Joshi,
late vice Chancellor ofUniversity of
Mumbai. Their vision was to bring
industry-education ventures for a
major diversi cation programme in

Industry at that time was behind the

properly trained personnel for
management. The idea of conducting
vocational and career-oriented courses found spontaneous
acclaim which was discussed by Shri Abasaheb Garware with

renowned industrialists in Mumbai. The GICED is his
brainchild as much as that of the University, signifying the
joint venture of education and industry.
