           ‘Aging’ Malaysia

           by 2056

Rapid aging will be a crucial megatrend affecting Malaysia soon

In 2021, more than 7% of Malaysia's population were aged 65 and
above, making the country an "ageing nation". At the current
trajectory, those 65 and above are projected to double to 14% by 2044
and to 20% by 2056, thus classifying Malaysia as a "super-aged" nation.
At this rate, Malaysia will transform from an ageing nation to an aged
           nation in around 25 years.
The increase in the number of senior
citizens aged 65 and above based on the
           Key Findings Population and Housing
           Census of Malaysia 2020 (MyCensus
2020) Report, will assist the country
           in formulating policies and
preparing to face the situation of
           Malaysia as an ageing country.
                In terms of age, the
majority or 69.1% of the Malaysian
population are of working age Population

25.6% are children aged up to 32,447,385
           14 years old, and 5.3% are Non-Citizen
           those aged 65 and above. 8.3 % 2.7 million
                The implications of an
           ageing nation depend on how
           policymakers and stakeholders
respond to the shift. With Citizen

in place early, an ageing trend does not
necessarily have only a negative impact on
the economy. Citizen by Ethnic Group
In fact, as the world continues to tip towards an axis of declining
fertility and mortality, the ageing population could bring about a new 2020 2010
