Features of an Instructional Text
ear 5 students have been learning about instructional texts. They explored the key
features and a variety of scaffolds before writing their own texts by following the
Ywriting process. Prior to their writing, they had practical demonstrations in the school’s
kitchen in mixed ability groups to conceptualise the steps involved in making Popcorns,
Pancakes, Sandwitches and Chapman drinks. They used their recipes specially prepared by
them for that purpose. It was fun to follow their own instructions and used their ingredients
to make these snacks and drinks with the supervision of their teachers. It was such a
fantatstic opportunity for the children to learn somethig new and try something different.
