YEAR 5
In the vibrant heart of Jabi Lake Mall, a group of Year 5 learners, their eyes brimming with ex-
citement and curiosity, embarked on an unforgettable excursion to Shoprite. The trip, a thrilling
part of their Nigerian Studies curriculum, was designed to teach them the practicalities of budg-
eting—a crucial life skill. Each student clutched a crisp 5000 naira note, generously provided by
their parents, with the mission to make thoughtful purchases and manage their finances wisely.
As they stepped into the bustling aisles of Shoprite, the learners were amazed by the array of
goods on display. With guidance from their teachers, they meticulously compared prices, read la-
bels, and debated over the best deals. Some prioritized essentials like snacks and drinks for their
lunchboxes, while others eyed toys and stationery, calculating how far their 5000 naira could
stretch. For instance, one student chose a pack of crayons and a notebook, while another opted
for a bottle of juice and a sandwich. The thrill of independence and the challenge of sticking to a
budget made the experience both educational and exhilarating.
By the end of the day, the students gathered to share their purchases and reflect on their choices.
Laughter and chatter filled the air as they proudly displayed their items, each with a unique deci-
sion-making and financial savvy story. This hands-on budgeting lesson not only enhanced their
understanding of money management but also fostered a sense of responsibility and teamwork.
As they boarded the bus back to school, their hearts and minds were full, leaving them with cher-
ished memories of their successful Shoprite adventure.
