Y E AR 1 IMMERSION

Year 1 children had an incredible time this week as they were immersed in the magical world

of the story ‘We’re Going to Find a Monster’. This is a fantastic way to kick off the term
with the new topic, Stories with Familiar Settings.
To bring the story to life, the children came to school dressed as their favourite characters

from the book. From shimmering oceans to towering mountains and even the bubbly bub-
bles, the settings from the story were beautifully recreated around the playground, sparking
the children’s curiosity and wonder.

Excitement filled the air as some of the children took part in role-playing the tale of Charlie

and Eddie—two brave siblings who, when told they have ten minutes until breakfast, set off
on an imaginative quest to find a grumpy, prickly monster. Their adventure led them through
wild landscapes and past fierce creatures, all to discover the “monster” was really their sleepy

teenage brother Marcus, still in bed!

The immersive experience helped the children understand how familiar settings can be trans-
formed into magical adventures through storytelling. It was a day full of creativity, laughter,
and a great start to an exciting term of learning.
