REMEMBRANCE DAY CELEBRATION
On the solemn morning of January 15, 2025, The Regent Primary School held its annual
Remembrance Day ceremony to honour the sacrifices of those who served in times of war and
conflict, ensuring the freedoms we enjoy today. The event took place in the school auditorium,
uniting staff, students, and guests in a heartfelt tribute to the heroes of the past.
The Last Post at 11 AM
At exactly 11:00 AM, the haunting notes of The Last Post; filled the air, followed by a moment of
silence observed by all present. The stillness of the room reflected the collective respect and
gratitude for the fallen, a reminder of the lives given for peace and unity.
National Anthem and Pledge
The ceremony commenced with the singing of the national anthem, a poignant moment of
unity and pride. This was followed by the recitation of the national pledge, affirming the school
community’s commitment to upholding the values for which so many fought and sacrificed.
Opening Remarks by the Headmaster
The Headmaster delivered opening remarks, emphasising the importance of remembering
the past to guide the future. In a moving speech, he highlighted the courage and resilience of
veterans and underscored the significance of instilling these values in the younger generation.
Presentations by Each Year Group
Each year group took to the stage to present their unique tributes. From recitations of poem
dedicated to soldiers and their sacrifices, to fun and interesting facts about the Nigerian Armed
Forces. Some gave a brief description and overview of the Nigerian Armed Forces and their
Logos while others shared heartfelt recitations emphasising the importance of remembrance,
incorporating quotes from military leaders and historical figures. The presentations showcased
the creativity and heartfelt effort of the students. Each act celebrated the themes of bravery,
sacrifice, and peace.
Laying of Wreaths
Representatives from each year group approached the memorial set up at the centre of the
stage, solemnly laying wreaths as a symbol of respect and gratitude. This act was accompanied
by a soft rendition of a commemorative tune, adding a layer of solemnity to the occasion.
Presentation of Token to the Legion
As part of the ceremony, a token of appreciation was presented to a representative of the
Nigerian legion. This gesture served as a tangible expression of the school’s gratitude and
ongoing support for veterans in the community.
Closing Remarks by the Head of Lower Primary
The event concluded with heartfelt closing remarks by the Head of Lower Primary. She praised
the students for their thoughtful tributes and encouraged them to carry forward the lessons
learned from the past. She emphasized that remembrance is not just a ceremony but a daily
commitment to peace, kindness, and understanding.
