The advantages of using real-life applications to teach maths to children include the following;
1. Make meaning to the context of their learning.
2. Make connections between math and everyday life.
3. It helps children understand how to identify and solve problems using mathematical
concepts.
4. It can also develop critical thinking and analytical skills, requiring them to analyse
information, make decisions and draw conclusions based on mathematical reasoning.
This week, the children in year 1 Beaver learned how to half objects and numbers using objects
they can relate to. We had fun using real-life objects to achieve this goal.
