NURSERY
As part of our exciting term theme, Neighbourhood Adventure, the Nursery group recently
explored the sub-theme “Supermarkets and Local Markets.” The children had a fantastic time
bringing this topic to life through imaginative and hands-on learning.
The classroom was transformed into a bustling local market and supermarket, complete with
colourful stalls, shopping baskets, play money, and a wide variety of items for sale. The children
stepped into different roles – shopkeepers, cashiers, sellers, and customers – and fully immersed
themselves in the world of shopping!
This fun and engaging activity helped spark the children’s imaginations while also supporting
important early learning goals. Through role-play, they practised:
• Early maths skills such as counting, recognising numbers, and making simple transactions
• Communication and social skills like turn-taking, polite conversation, and teamwork
• Understanding of real-life experiences through play-based learning
• By buying, selling, and sorting items, the children not only had a wonderful time but also
developed a deeper understanding of everyday routines in their neighbourhood.
It was a lively, joyful experience that brought learning to life—and one the children won’t soon
forget!
