YEAR 2

As part of our Literacy focus on stories with familiar settings, Year 2 embarked on an exciting
trip to the zoo. Our focus text this term is Gorilla by Anthony Browne, which tells the story of a
young girl who longed to visit the zoo. To bring this story to life, the children enjoyed a
wonderful immersion experience surrounded by real animals in their habitats.

The trip was filled with excitement and curiosity as the children explored the zoo, observing
animals, learning about their habitats, and discovering what they eat. This hands-on experience
created a valuable cross-curricular link with Science, where the children have been studying
animals in different habitats.
By seeing the animals up close, the children
not only deepened their scientific
understanding but also gained first-hand
insight into what a setting looks like. This will
enrich their creative writing, helping them
invent imaginative stories in the style of the
ones they have been reading in class.

It was truly a day of learning, fun, and
inspiration!
