A Message from
MR MURRAY
HEAD OF SCHOOL
Last week I reflected on the warmth of the
Abuja welcome and how quickly this new
chapter of my life has begun to feel like
home for me. I also spoke of the Vision and
Mission of Abuja Prep and how these
provide a compass for all that we do here in
school.
For those of you who joined our parent
sessions back in early September, you may
remember that I outlined my “first one hun-
dred days” approach. This involves careful
observation, a wide range of one-to-one
interviews, and a thorough review of
policies and practices, particularly around
the field of IT and Artificial Intelligence.
The purpose is simple: to listen, to
understand, and to form a clear picture of
what we do best, while also identifying
where fresh opportunities may lie. To date, I
have already conducted over forty
individual interviews with staff and the
insights gained are invaluable.

These conversations reaffirm the strength
of Abuja Prep’s achievements to date, as
well as its reputation and spirit, while also
shining a light on ways we can continue to
grow together. I look forward to speaking
with more staff, pupils and parents over the
coming weeks.

to raise a child.”
– African Proverb
A huge highlight of this past week was
something entirely new for me in my 23
years of education: a nanny workshop.
This unique programme is designed to
equip nannies with the skills needed to care
for children in today’s fast-changing world.
From digital awareness to practical
strategies for supporting learning and
wellbeing, the workshop reflects the
progressive, forward-thinking ethos we
espouse here at Abuja Prep.
It also brings to life the African proverb,
“It takes a village to raise a child,” by
recognising that the circle of care around
each child extends well beyond simply
teachers and parents. As American
novelist, and civil rights activist James
Baldwin once observed, “Children have
never been very good at listening to their
elders, but they have never failed to imitate
them.”
The role of a nanny, therefore, is not
simply supervisory, but profoundly
formative - shaping habits, values, and
attitudes that last a lifetime.

My sincere thanks go to Ms Lizzie, Ms
Amelia, Ms Hannatu, Ms Debbie and
Ms Ajayi for their careful planning and
inspirational delivery of the sessions.
Their work in this area truly reflects
the collaborative ethos of our school
and our shared commitment to putting
children at the very centre of everything
we do. We will all be stronger for this
programme!
As we continue our journey into the
term, I remain encouraged by the strong
partnerships already evident across our
community. Together, we are discover-
ing, developing and delivering in ways
that prepare our children not just for
today, but for tomorrow’s world as well.
