Develop
Swimming develops strength, coordination,
stamina, and focus. It also supports
emotional regulation, as the rhythmic
nature of swimming offers a calming effect
for many learners. Whether a child is
swimming confidently or still building up
their courage, there is growth and
development happening every week.
Deliver
Ultimately, swimming helps pupils deliver
on both personal and academic goals.
Children who feel strong, confident, and
capable in their bodies are often more
willing to take on challenges in the
classroom. The discipline, perseverance,
and self-belief fostered in the pool translate
beautifully into their wider learning journey.
This term, we also launched our swim
clinics on Saturday mornings at AWA
- another glorious opportunity for our
APS students to shine in the pool and
to prepare for swimming competitions
later in the year. We are incredibly
proud of their progress this term, and
we look forward to celebrating their
achievements in the water over the
coming terms.
A common myth busted:
This idea that “swimming can give you a cold” has been repeated for generations, but it
simply isn’t true. Swimming itself does not cause colds. Colds are caused by viruses, not
by cold water. A child can only catch a cold from coming into contact with someone who is
already carrying the virus. Or, indeed, from viruses in the water itself, though appropriate
treatment of the water with chlorine prevents this.
