Category - Yoruba Ilorin The Regent School celebrates Nigeria
On Independence Day, our School celebrated 27 different tribes in Nigeria. My class, 2S,
Music - O lowe Mowe - A dolaye Ar emu represented the Gbagyi tribe, where we proudly displayed our traditional attire (Adjadye)
Music - Olowe Mowe - Adolaye Aremu
and shared the tribe’s rich history. Playgroup 1 and 2 celebrated the Igbo tribe, while
Nursery R, S, and A honoured the Yoruba tribe. Reception R, S, and A represented the Fulani tribe.
Our class, 2S, was thrilled to win 1st place, with Year 2R coming in 2nd. Afterwards, we took
a group photo dressed in our Gbagyi attire, holding hoes and cutlasses. To top it all off,
we enjoyed some delicious Gbagyi foods like kunu, pounded yam, soup, and potato chips.
The entire school was beautifully decorated with green and white balloons, and we also
brought artefacts to decorate our classrooms, making the event even more special.

On the 27th of September, The Regent School celebrated Nigeria Day to mark 64
years of Nigeria’s Independence.
On that day, as I was coming to school, I saw all the students dressed in their
marvellous Nigerian attires. Then at exactly 8:30 am, all of us went for flag hoisting.
After that, at 11.00 am, the programme for the Independence day celebration started
where each year group had to sing either a past or present Nigerian music genre
and dance for not more than 5 minutes. A lot of parents came to watch our creative
and remarkable performances. The musical performances were quite enthralling
and entertaining filled with creativity.
Nigeria Day was a day filled with wonders and entertainment, binding all of us from
different cultures to commemorate the Independence of Nigeria.
