A Message from handles. Drama is just one of the vehicles we use to help children fully immerse in literature and is an es-
sential part of our literacy sequence. We explored techniques such as Freeze Frame, Conscience
MRS. DYER Alley, and Hot Seating. As you can see, we had a lot of fun and will take these ideas back to the
classroom.
HEAD OF SCHOOL
Literacy Immersion
Our children engaged in immersion activities to
launch their new literacy topic last week. The
Year 1 pupils joined in a play by Goldilocks and
the Three Bears. Afterwards, they enjoyed tast-
ing some porridge to see if it was ‘just right.’
The Year 2 children had their Baba Yaga experi-
ence and met ‘Baba Yaga’, which caused lots of
excited squeals!
There are many other ways for children to im-
merse themselves in a new genre. In year 6, the
children are studying stories with Flashbacks. To
help them understand this new concept, they
watched film clips from Matilda, Harry Potter
and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which
included scenes with flashbacks. Film is another
