With bright eyes and eager footsteps, the
children explored the hallways, classrooms,
and outdoor spaces, searching for familiar
visuals — from classroom labels and bath-
room signs to exit arrows, display pictures,
and even the school logo. Each discovery
sparked excitement, conversation, and a
growing awareness of the world around
them.
This playful activity supports early literacy
in powerful ways. By spotting and naming
real-life signs, children begin to understand
that print and symbols carry meaning. They
start making important connections between
what they see and what it represents —
whether it’s an “exit” sign, a “toilet” label, or
a trash disposal symbol.
As they proudly pointed and exclaimed,
“Look!” or “That says we wash our hands!”,
they were actively engaging in early reading
behaviours — building confidence and mak-
ing meaningful connections with their envi-
ronment.
Through this engaging walk, our young
learners strengthened their observation skills,
expanded their vocabulary, and became more
confident explorers of their learning space.
