Pupil Council Elections
                                               A Message from                                                                   We had great excitement last week as we held elections for Abuja Prep’s Pupil Coun-

                                                                                                                                cil. Each class nominated candidates who wrote and presented their manifesto to their
                                               MRS. DYER                                                                        peers. The class then held a ballot, and the candidate with the most votes was elected.

                                                                                                                                The new council will have their investiture this week.

                       Welcome to another busy week at Abuja Prep as we head towards the mid-

            Dterm break. We were delighted this week to receive news and photos from
            a school in Kuchigoro where some of your school supply donations were distribut-
            ed. The children were so happy to open their gifts. Yesterday, we had the privilege of

            visiting The Oakbridge Foundation in Mpape to deliver more of your donations. The
            children were very excited to see us and receive the gifts of school bags, water bottles,
            shoes and toys. Thank you so much for your generosity. You have made many chil-
            dren very happy.                                                                                                    So why do we have a Pupil Council?
                                                                                                                                There are many reasons to have a school council. Article 12 of the United Nations
                                                                                                                                Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) says that children and young peo-
                                                                                                                                ple should have a say in decisions that affect their lives. A school council provides
                                                                                                                                a meaningful way for pupils to voice their opinions and have their views taken into

                                                                                                                                account in decisions that impact upon them.

                                                                                                                                Pupil Councils enable students to take on leadership roles, promote students’ voices,
                                                                                                                                problem-solve and impact the school community. A council serves as the voice for

                                                                                                                                an entire student body and actively works with the staff and leadership to promote a
                                                                                                                                better learning environment.
