RECEPTION TRANSITION
ransition activities for children moving from Reception to Year 1 are
designed to support a smooth and positive progression from the Early
TYears Foundation Stage to the more formal Key Stage 1 curriculum. This
change can be significant for young children, so well-planned transition activities
play an important role in reducing anxiety, building confidence, and maintaining
continuity in both their learning and wellbeing.
There are several key reasons for focusing on transition. Firstly, it supports
the emotional wellbeing of the children and helps to boost their confidence.
Secondly, it allows children to familiarise themselves with their new environment,
making the change less daunting. Thirdly, transition activities ensure continuity
in learning, so children can build on what they have already achieved. Fourthly,
they prepare children for new behaviours and routines expected in Key Stage 1.
Finally, these activities help to build stronger relationships between the children
and their new teachers, fostering a supportive and welcoming atmosphere.
