Hey black child My school is my pride, Look past the walls, My hands are for clapping
DO you know who you are I am grateful to thee, Open the drapes,

Who you really are I am proud to be here, Dare to peer out, My arms can hug tight
DO you know you can be And will always adhere. And plan your escapes, My fingers can snap
 What you want to be

If you try to be Impacting knowledge into me, From the box that you’re standing, Or can turn out the light
What you can be Like a flower to a bee, So still and so meek,

You bring out the star in me, Dare to reach out, My legs are for jumping
Hey black child As I work hard to be me. And have a sneak peek
Do you know where you are going My eyes help me see
Where you are really going My teachers are like gods, Of what just might be, This is my body

Do you know you can learn Working tirelessly without a rod, Of what you still dream,
What you want to learn That excites and delights you, And I love all of me!

If you try to learn It comes with a price, That gives you your steam
What you can learn Knowing that I will rise.
         They may have gone quiet,

Hey black child You are not just a structure, Those big plans and dreams,

Be what you can be But you are shaping my future, As they aren’t in this box,
Learn what you must learn With the interest of my heart, So, they’re scary, it seems
DO what you can do Bringing out the me in art.
And tomorrow your nation Your beliefs, fears and doubts,
Will be what you want it to be All act as a wall,
My school, my pride But this little box,

HEY BLACK CHILD Without a doubt, my stride.

         The Box You’ve Outgrown
MY SCHOOL MY PRIDE by The Goal Chaser
