or those who are familiar with Chinua Achebe’s
Things Fall Apart, there is an apt quote that I usually
like to refer to, It reads: “The lizard that jumped from
F the high iroko tree to the ground said he would praise
himself if no one else did.” The proverb refers to the theme of
resilience. Moreso, when a person achieves such a lofty feat,
he deserves to be praised. If not, there is nothing wrong with
him praising himself.
Perhaps you already know what I am driving at. However, if
you do not know, you need to take another look at the front
cover page of this newsletter. If you do not understand, you
should read from the principal’s desk on pages 4-8. It is all
about being outstanding.
The school audience was bedazzled with outstanding
speeches last Friday by the representatives of the four hous-
es. It was a fine blend of rhetoric and vocabulary, which I be-
lieve you would find interesting, too, when you peruse pages
10-14.
Sixteen years in one school? That is a reality you would want
to read about in Toby Umaru’s recount of his experience at
The Regent Schools. Moreover, there are other bits and piec-
es to fill your time positively when you continue to flip the
pages of this edition of The Regent Digest.
