Reflection
             Reflection                                       on



                                                              Indra Jatra



                                                                     Do you know that we celebrated Indra Jatra
                                                              in grade 4 at school? Grade 4A and 4B both had
                                                              prepared it well with interest. Some days before the
                                                              celebration, we had painted the chariots in the art
                                                              class. The day before the celebration, we went to the
                                                              shed to cook ‘Barah’ and we picked ‘Saag’ for the
                                                              bhoj.  Some parent volunteers had come to help us
                                                              cook and the other day early in the morning we had
                                                              wore our Newari dresses. It was called a Hakupatashi.
                                                              Girls wore red lipstick, eyeliner and red tika while
                                                              boys were wearing mustaches. There were a lot of
                                                              characters, there was a Kumari, Ganesh, Bhairav,
                                                              2 Lakheys, 2 Pujarees, 6 Musicians, 6 Pulukishis, 2
                                                              MCs and the rest of us became people in the proces-
                                                              sion. I was one of those people.The celebration was
                                                              about to begin. We were in the shed peeling potatoes,
                                                              eggs and making a Samay Baji while the parents and
                                                              other students were coming. After all the parents got
                                                              seated we started the program. First the MC started
                                                              the celebration by telling what was happening.
                                                              Then came the Pulukishi dance. There were 4 rounds
                                                              done by him.
                                                                     The torchbearer leaded the Pulukishi, Then
                                                              came the Lakheys.Then came lord Ganesh in his rath
                                                              who had 2 rounds, Then came lord Bhairav in his
                                                              rath with 2 rounds too.Then came Kumari in a rath
                                                              also with 2 rounds. The Pujarees did Puja to every-
                                                              one.
                                                                     After all the fun it was time to eat. Parents
                                                              ate the Samay Baji as prasad  and we had a proper
                                                              newari bhoj consisting of barah, baji, chicken, aalu,
                                                              bhatmas, aila(Sprite), curd etc.
                                                                     Sadly the celebration had ended. We went
                                                              back to the classroom and discussed it and it was
                                                              time to go back home.

                                                                     I enjoyed the celebration a lot. I hope the
                                                              parents and the students
                                                              enjoyed it too.
