We used simple linear regression to examine the relationship between the
cumulative forest loss in hectare and the roadkill number using PAST (v. 2.17c).
The Spatial Analyst and Spatial Statistics tools (ArcMAP 10.6.1) were used to
calculate the density and distribution of roadkill in Peninsular Malaysia.

                                              RESULTS

A total 115 Malayan tapir roadkill were recorded from 2006 to 2019 in Peninsular
Malaysia. The highest number of roadkill occurred in the year 2017, followed by
               2014, 2019, 2015 and 2016 (Figure 1). The period from 2006-2013 and 2018 had
less than ten roadkill per year, respectively. The volume of roadkill that occurred
throughout the year was not consistent with the highest rate in April, June and
September (Table 1). The mean number of annual roadkill was 8.21 ± 1.69, with
the highest number recorded in 2017 (26) and the lowest numbers in 2006, 2007,
               2010 and 2013 (3).
