Managing People –

‘Only three things happen naturally in organisations, confusion,
frictions and underperformance; everything else requires
             leadership’ Peter Drucker
What Peter is saying here essentially is that for any organization
to make progress, leadership is very important. In the absence of
leadership chaos and confusion may be the order of the day. I think
we have covered that assertion in detail already in this book.
I have 2 rules in management, and they are pretty simple:
                • Treat your employees as you will want to be
                     treated
                • Be a leader not a boss

I am not going to explain those rules because they are simple
enough. If you just make those 2 rules your guiding principles all
other difficult decisions would fall in place without complexity.
Find a way to align the objective of your company with that of your
employees through share options or profit share. After you
executing this process, you will stop chasing people around with a
stick because they become self-motivated and self-directed.
In the book Scrum by Jeff Sutherland about project management,
he emphasized the power of team productivity over individual
productivity. He also emphasized the power of employing smarter
people that can work very fast. He compared the productivity of a
smart guy against an average guy at around 10x; that’s a lot. Do
you consider that hiring a single person capable of 10x productivity
will skyrocket your result? However, the math was unbelievable
when you compare an average team with a very smart team; the
difference in productivity went through the roof. It may sound like
an exaggeration, but Sutherland put it at 1000x better. Well, there
are ways to organize and manage these people to produce such
a phenomenon result. Go and get the book to learn more. I can tell
you it’s a great read and I am not getting a penny for this free
advert for the book. The great Steve job also said something along
the line of one smart guy able to do 100x more than an average
guy. So, these guys must know something about performance
because they produced what most people cannot in 10 lifetimes in
