Welcome to a new quarter for the Fremont Union High School District’s (FUHSD) Sunnyvale-Cupertino Adult School!
As Superintendent of FUHSD, I am incredibly grateful that the State of California has acknowledged the importance of adult education by restoring funding to local school districts for the purpose of meeting the lifelong learning needs of our community through a variety of educational opportunities.
While support from the State undoubtedly helps build and strengthen our adult education program, FUHSD has had a longstanding commitment to engaging and teaching adults and children in the community before and far beyond the four years of high school. Even during the economic downturn, FUHSD was determined to maintain a robust adult education program. This commitment by district leadership, particularly the FUHSD Board of Trustees, has made all the difference for the approximately 16,000 adult education students we serve each year. Because of the Board’s strong leadership and vision, we were able to stay the course during tough times and persevere to positively impact our students.
Stability of school district leadership has been shown to be a key factor in student success, as this stability directly supports school districts in their efforts toward continuous improvement. In order for positive and transformative change to occur, a district’s vision, shared beliefs, and educational strategies must be developed, nurtured, and sustained by educational leaders over time.
I want to express my gratitude to the community for its generous support of FUHSD. A community is enriched by its schools and stronger when education is held up as a valued profession, there is a universal belief that all students can achieve at high levels, and an understanding that through a collaborative process, we can provide every individual in our community with the strongest possible foundation for academic and personal success.
We are excited to be able to continue to offer the courses and trainings included in this catalogue, which include opportunities in Adult Basic Education, High School Diploma, Career Technical Education, English as a Second Language, Parent Education and personal enrichment. Adult education also plays a vital and important role in the life of our community by supporting individuals on a path to citizenship. Please remember what a precious gift this is by exercising your right and privilege to vote this November.
