English as a Second Language (ESL)
Do you need to learn English and improve how you speak, read and write in English? The state of California is funding English classes at FUHSD Adult School for adults who grew up speaking a language other than English. There is a range of classes to meet a variety of needs—from students who have had little exposure to English to those who have a background in English and just need to improve their skills. A test will determine which class is best for each student.
ESL Classes* for 2016-2017:
Beginning Literacy: For students who speak, read and write little or no English.
Beginning English: For students who can sometimes understand English speakers but at a minimal level.
Intermediate English: For students who are able to “functionally” communicate in English but lack fluency. This level begins to infuse more complicated reading and writing.
Advanced English: This level of English has students read, write and speak English at a level that will allow them to transition into our Adult Basic Education courses entitled English Fluency.
All of the classes are free,
but students are required to:
a. Register for Placement Test in advance
b. Take a placement test and a post-test;
c. Maintain the attendance and participation
guidelines of the class;
d. Complete homework outside of the class
time.
