Play, Promote, Perform – BY HELENA MACE
I thought I’d take the opportunity this month to talk about It had been so long without performing that it was an honour and a complete surprise to be asked to be a support artist for well known UK country artist, Twinnie.
Twinnie had made a name for herself in the west end and on a popular soap opera in the UK and had just released her debut album, Hollywood Gypsy and was set to come down to the South of England to tour her new album.
I had been asked some time ago to be a support act for an artist at the amazing venue, Madding Crowd but due to the uncertain times in the music industry due to the pandemic, it had been shelved whilst things tried to return to some normality.
I was very excited to be chosen to perform as Twinnies support act and got some old friends together to get a full sound for my half hour slot. I teamed up with my husband Grant on vocals and percussion, Matt Griffiths on guitar and Si Genaro on Harmonica who you would have heard on some of my previous records. I was obviously on lead vocals and guitar and it was amazing to be on the stage again performing my original music to a brilliant audience.
I started the evening with the upbeat, Breakin up ain’t easy from my Chasing Dreams album and then went into one of my latest singles Shifting Sands which had been its first live outing as I’d never had the chance to perform it since it had been written and released. My next track was one of my favourites, Save it for another day which is actually a favourite of many. I then changed the pace to a song that Matt Griffiths had written called Slow Dance which we had turned into a duet and then one of my more folky type tracks, Stranger’s, also from the Chasing Dreams album.
My finale was the upbeat and positive track from the Unbroken album called Hometown and Si joined us on Harmonica although he had never played on it before. The set went down extremely well which was a massive relief as it had been the first time I’d performed a set of my original tracks since the world started opening up again.
My original music was starting to see the light of day again.
Next month..
