                                                                    This use of knots for communication

                                                               was taken up again much later in the late
                                                               nineteenth century by David Macheath

                                                               and Robert Mylne in Scotland when an
                                                               alphabet for the blind was developed. It
                                                               did not come to anything, but was part of

                                                               an on-going tradition of knots for
                                                               communication. The knot tied in a hand¬

                                                               kerchief to remind you of a task to be
