Making a Self Stopped Coil

1 Having made a plain coil
                 fold the short end back
on itself to make a bight

                 and start to wrap round
the whole of the coil trap¬
                 ping the bight under the

                 turns.
             2 Make several turns round
the rope coil and tuck the
                 remaining short end

                 through the bight.
3 Push the turns tight up
                 against the tucked end.

             4 Finished coil
5 A self stopped coil. The
                 turns made with the rope

                 end doubled to give a
                 hanging loop.
6 A coil of Z laid rope coiled

                 correctly and held
                 together with stoppings
                 of fine line.
