Chapter 7
Invest in the times
Do you remember typewriters?
Once upon a time, they were an amazing brand-new invention, and everyone was buying
and using them. But lo and behold, the personal computer and laptop appeared, and it
was bye-bye to the typewriter from then on.
In the same vein, the photocopier has replaced carbon paper and electric lights have
replaced kerosene lanterns.
Innovation is never ending, and you need to stay ahead of events and move with the
times.
This is 2020, and with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, many business sectors are
being shut down, while others are simultaneously beginning to grow in leaps and bounds.
Businesses like those in the travel, tourism and hospitality sectors have been hard hit;
many have either ground to a halt or closed completely. But businesses in the food,
health and pharmaceutical industries have continued to remain relevant.
Also, online trainings, courses, videos, blogs, etc. are multiplying at a phenomenal rate
and making major profit for their owners.
So, it is important to be very sensitive to the changing times and seasons and to know
what is profitable and what is not profitable before investing.
What was a great business proposition yesterday may be dead in the water by today?
Do not just go into a business because it is your dream or because it has always been your
passion, or because your parents advised you to go into it. Rather, go into business
because you have done your due diligence and it has shown every proof of being
profitable and sustainable in the now and in the foreseeable future.
