Chapter 1
The biggest thief of all
The legend goes that once upon a time there lived a very rich ruler. He had so much
wealth that he was able to afford the most expensive mansions, cars and jewelry. And he
regularly threw lavish parties and had exotic dancers and models flown in from all over
the world for the entertainment of his guests.
But as the years wore on, he noticed that his wealth began to deplete sharply. He became
very agitated and had his accountant arrested, certain that he must be responsible for his
dwindling fortunes.
While the accountant languished in jail, the formerly rich ruler was visited by a passing
seer. The seer was very well known and famous for telling fortunes and solving mysteries.
“Tell me who has stolen all my money, and you will be handsomely rewarded,” declared
the ruler.
Without a word, the seer brought out a crystal ball and set it on a table before the ruler.
He told him that the face of the thief would appear in the ball. And that the ruler only
needed to close his eyes and count to seven.
The ruler called his guards and instructed them that if the face that appeared in the ball
was that of the accountant, he was to remain in jail for the rest of his life. But if it
belonged to another person, the person was to be looked for and arrested immediately
and taken to jail for life. And it did NOT MATTER WHO THE PERSON WAS. The
order of the king was to be obeyed as it could not be reversed.
The ruler closed his eyes and started counting. As he reached number seven, the crystal
ball became filled with smoke and the ruler became afraid. But the seer told him to move
closer to the ball and watch closely at the image forming inside.
He obeyed and peered closely into the ball, and indeed, a face began to form. The ruler
began to shake uncontrollably and sweat profusely. Then he began to shout and point at
the face in the crystal ball…
It was his own face.
