PROVOST’S MESSAGE

Congratulations on choosing Bowie State University to start your graduate school journey. You
are joining a community of learners and academicians with a strong commitment to ensuring
your success. Our faculty, staff and administrators are excited to assist you in fulfilling your
academic and professional goals. Over the coming years, you will encounter a curriculum that
provides the necessary training and rigor to ensure you are prepared to take on leadership
roles in your respective field of study.

As the oldest historically black university in the state of Maryland, Bowie State University takes
great pride in continuing to evolve and expand to meet and exceed the changing demands of
the global marketplace. Since its inception in 1970, the Bowie State University Graduate School
has sought to respond to the evolving educational and professional development needs of the
region, state, nation, and indeed the world with an intentional goal of giving access and
opportunity to a diverse pool of graduate students. In our continuing transformation at Bowie
State University, we will assure academic excellence for our graduate students by providing you
with relevant educational, social and multicultural experiences that are delivered and guided by
distinguished, highly qualified faculty and staff.

To aid your decision making, this catalog outlines pertinent program curriculum requirements
and services for the graduate degree and certificate programs the university offers. This
includes, 19 graduate degrees, two doctoral degrees, 13 post-baccalaureate certificates, one
post-master’s certificate, and three certificates of advanced study. It is important that you use
this catalog as a guide in your regular consultation with an academic advisor to ensure
requirements for graduation are met as you plan and pursue your academic, professional, and
personal goals.
