Besides, it also includes the construction of a national-level social education and cultural
institution (Nanhai Academy) in the botanical gardens, the organization of national sports
activities in the former Yuanshan Sports Ground, and the establishment of a national-level
stadium and sports facilities in the reserved site of 5th park. Taipei City Baseball Field was
once one of the most important baseball fields in Taiwan (now Taipei Little Dome). Thus
the foundation for the planning and development of the Taipei City Park in the 1960s was
built toward gradually adding more national sports facilities, social educational and cultural
institutions.
The coming of globalization era, 1981-1990
Open Space System
After the 1970s, economic results gradually showed
up. As a result of industrialization, with the rapid
emergence of urbanization, a large amount of
investment in urban land development began. The
skyline of Taipei City also experienced tremendous
changes. The traditional commercial streets
were replaced by tall buildings, which made the
construction of the Taipei City Park unable to keep
up with the speed of population growth.

Great Benefits
Taipei was inevitably pushed to develop internationally.
A great deal of traffic constructions and public works
were started. After the introduction of the plan for
the underground construction of the railway and
the construction of the MRT network, not only the
traffic problem was solved after the underground
construction, but also the lands’ development along the
route were prompted because the spared lands were
recovered.
In view of the saturation of the development of the
Taipei Urban Development Bureau leads the open space greening
old city center in the Western District, the planning at the corner of Zhongshan North Road.
