Western Concepts of Parks’ Planning Introduced by Japanese
Since the industrial revolution in 19th century, European nations were facing lots of problems
such as fast urbanization of the cities, rapid growth of the population, diminish of the
households living space and the decline of environmental quality. Therefore, a phenomenal of
city transformation were called. The Chicago world expo in 1893 triggered the “City Beautiful
Movement” in the United States. The main purpose of this movement were to restore fair
living environments, cultivate morality and ethics of the people and help improve harmonious
social order through this beautification movement.This includes planning squares and plaza
for public gathering, modification of alleys in the city, building traffic system that connects
important buildings and attractions, constructing monumental architectures and museums,
establishing urban space in a good order.
1932 plans for 17 large parks and planned streets planning in Taipei City.
