After the passing of her grandmother, she went to New York to live with her sister. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, the late Mr. Ralph Waithe, Sr., and to this union Joycelyn and Ralph, Jr. were born. She attended nursing school and worked in hospitals before moving to Florida, where she worked as one of the first of two Black nurses hired at Uni- versity Community Hospital until her retirement. She had a large following who were privi- leged to eat her Bajan cuisine and engage in talks around the table, where she shared her faith and love of Christ.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: her children, Joyce- lyn Waithe and Ralph Waithe, Jr; stepchildren, Marcia Austin (New York) and Anthony Austin (Barbados); sister-in-law, Sybil Durant (Barbados); brothers-in- law, Vernon Mahon and Roger Mahon (Barbados); grandchil- dren, Abdul Austin (New York) and Vickie Durant (Barbados); cousins, Sandra Wynn (Warren), David Bennett, George Bennett, Judith Grazette (Gregory); a host of others represented in the fol- lowing families, Best, Booth, Culpepper, Davis, Durant, El- bert, Elcock, Felix, Floyd, Graves, Green, Inniss, Joseph, Labrache, Mahon, Mosley, Principe, Reid, Rollock, Samuel, Stoltzfoos, Thompson, White and Wright.
