BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
The mother of a Tampa man who died of a gunshot wound this weekend said her son didn’t like arguing or fighting. And, he was trying to stop two other people from fighting when he was fatally wounded.
Ms. Sandra Jones, the mother of 28-year- old Nathaniel Cornell Jones, said, “Everyone loved my son, he was a peacemaker. He was try- ing to make peace when this happened.”
Ms. Jones said her son knew both of the in- dividuals involved in the quarrel and was at- tempting to stop a fight when gunfire erupted. “I don’t know who was shooting. You know how people are, no one sees anything. But, I’m not going to worry about it, I don’t question God.”
A native of Tampa, Jones attended the pub- lic schools of Hillsborough County, including Chamberlain High School. After reaching adult- hood, he went to work.
At the time of his death, Jones was employed at Vista Inn Motel, where he was assigned to the Maintenance Department. His mother said he had been working there for about two years.
The son of the late Nathaniel Brewer, Jones was the youngest of his mother’s four children. She said he was very close to his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing and he vis- ited local churches.
He was also the father of two young children. His son is one-year-old and his daughter is one- month-old, Ms. Jones said.
Funeral services for Jones were incomplete at press time. Harmon’s Funeral Home is in

“Detectives are still investigating the circum- stances surrounding the shooting and trying to identify a suspect in the case,” the spokesperson said.
