Popular Educator To Be Laid To Rest Saturday
Annual Back To School Event
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
For several years a Tampa businesswoman has provided free services for school-aged children. She was able to ac- complish this task working in conjunction with several other organizations.
This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the Annual Back To School Event. Ms. Dianne Hart, a Tampa busi- ness owner and political can- didate, has joined forces with the East Tampa Business & Civic Association, Ethel’s Heart, The COACH Founda- tion, and Stacy Burgess, of Straight Request to offer the free services again this year.
On Sunday, August 7th, be- ginning at 8 a.m., boys will re- ceive haircuts. The services will be provided by Eric Barr, of Joey’s Barbershop. Barbers Rashaad Fennell, Cory, Rick, and Carla Clemmons will donate their time.
The following day, Mon- day, August 8th, Ms. Hart, along with stylists Derick Levy, Tina Morrell-Ses- sions, Toccara Morrell Cheryl Phillips, Rose Dixon, and Veda Virgil will provide services for the girls.
Both events will take place at Miss Dee’s World of Beauty, 3913 North Tampa Street.
Ms. Hart said everyone must register to receive the services because walk-ins will

not receive the services. The recipients must also be school aged, entering grades 1-12.
“We believe if all children have the school supplies this is the first step to feeling pre- pared for school and feeling good about themselves. It will remove some of the obstacles. We understand that it takes more than just schools sup- plies, hairdos, and uniforms to educate our children.
“This year, we are also fo- cusing on grandparents rais- ing their grandchildren and children of incarcerated par- ents. We realize there is a huge need for the hair services,” Ms. Hart said.
She further stated that everyone has something to give, whether it is school sup- plies, clothing, money, or time. She is encouraging anyone who wants to volunteer to con- tact her.
To register for the services contact Ms. Hart at (813) 748-0952 or (813) 391-8319.

Mrs. Lorretta Cottman
spent nearly 40 years in the Hillsborough County School System. However, when she retired in 2007, life did not slow down. Mrs. Cottman slipped away to her heavenly home on Monday, July 25, 2016. Her daughter, Alexa proudly says, “...it was her time and my dad (Alexander Cottman) missed her.”
