BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
On Monday night, First Lady Michelle Obama ad- dressed the audience at the Democratic National Conven- tion in Philadelphia, Pennsyl- vania. She delivered an emotional, rousing speech that earned her a standing ovation.
Some Sentinel readers who listened to the speech of First Lady Obama shared their comments.

speech. As always talking about her family, talking about the kids, and what a great job her and President Obama has done with the kids. She talked about Hillary Clinton and some of the ideas and ex- perience that Hillary Clin- ton had with kids.
“I think her speech is really going to help Hillary Clin- ton’s campaign for President of United States.”
Ms. Vivian Heyward said, “Michelle
Obama is one
of the most
stunning, smart,
and articulate
speakers that I
have ever heard. Her message was about education and the future of the children. And I paraphrase her in saying we can’t become tired and frus- trated.
“We must go out into our own communities, organize voter rallies, and encourage people to vote. I know a lot of people believe that their vote doesn’t count, but that will be the one that makes the differ- ence.
“We must start working with our children at an early age. If they don’t know their colors or can’t count by the time they reach school age, then they are already behind.
“I hope people did listen to her speech. And for those who did not hear it, they should go and listen to it.”
Being very respectful, she laid the case for being the best that anyone can be including in- spiring to be the President of the United States – whether boy or girl of any race, color, or creed. When comparing to Ted Cruz, her position was less contentious.”
or else we probably would have heard the same speech it again!”
Ross Anderson said, “This speech was the BEST ever from First Lady Michelle Obama. The part of her speech that re- sounded was when she said: ‘And make no mistake about it, this November, when we go to the polls, that is what we’re deciding -– not Democrat or Republican, not left or right. No, this election, and every election, is about who will have the power to shape our children for the next four or
eight years of their lives.”
“We have to think about this generation of children be- cause if they are NOT edu- cated we are liable to repeat history!”
Dr. Samuel Wright said, “First Lady Michelle
Obama hit a
grand slam! She
knocked that presentation
out of the
park. Needless
to say, she was
articulate, elegant, poised and forthright. She made it crystal clear what attributes, charac- teristics and temperament a POTUS must possess. She also reminded the American people that she and her family have lived in a mansion built by slaves for the past 8 years.
“In some ways, I am sure she was implying that it never was intended for Blacks to live there, but we have come a long ways. She implied that for- ward movement is the agenda of the day and we can't go backwards! She and all the other speakers must be com- mended for the manner in which they opened the Demo- cratic National Convention. It was FANTASTIC!”
Ronnie Moorer said, “First Lady Michelle Obama went up to bat and hit a Grand Slam the park. As she ran around the bases, she touched everyone, with what a President should be and the projection for the future for the next generation to come. She touched the hearts of all the DNC attendants and those
who watched on TV.
“I loved the part when she
said, ‘she lived in the house that slaves built,’ WOW! I am glad she spoke after the RNC,

“My favorite line: ‘...the story of generations of people who felt the lash of bondage, the shame of servitude, the sting of segregation, but who kept on striving and hoping and doing what needed to be done so that today I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves...’ Our first lady... my shero!”
