Larry Robinson Named FAMU’s 12th President By Board Of Trustees
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Thursday November 30th), the Florida A&M University (FAMU) Board of Trustees (BOT) unanimously voted to name Larry Robinson, Ph.D., the 12th university president, subject to confir- mation by the Florida Board of Governors.
“I am humbled and over- joyed to have this opportu- nity to help move this University forward. I under- stand the awesomeness of
this responsibility,” Robin- son said, accepting the nomination.
“I feel very, very fortu- nate to be a part of your team. I want to emphasize that our No. 1 priority will be student success – fully un- derstanding that a key ele- ment of our student success is the great work of our fac- ulty and staff.”
Board Chair Kelvin Lawson underscored the collective support from the

BOT and FAMU community to name Robinson FAMU’s next permanent leader.
“We based our decision on data and followed our process thoroughly,” Law- son said. “We all, collec- tively, feel good about where we are, and we feel ex- tremely well about our new leader –President Robin- son.”
Robinson has served as the University’s interim president since September
2016. He also serves as a dis- tinguished professor and principal investigator in the School of the Environment. He previously served as in- terim president from July 2012 to April 2014, director of FAMU’s Environmental Sciences Institute from 1997 to 2003, provost and vice president for Academic Af- fairs from 2003 to 2005, in- terim president in 2007, and vice president for Research in 2009.
More Florida Classic Weekend Events
The Classic Weekend continued in Orlando with the game and concert.
More than 48,000 were in attendance in Orlando for the 2017 Florida Classic. For the 7th consecutive year Bethune-Cookman University defeated FAMU, 29-24.

NEW UNIFORMS – FAMU alumni Bernard and Shirley Kinsey, do- nated $250,000 in 2016 during the Florida Classic to help the band purchase new uniforms and a branded trailer to transport the band’s instruments and equipment. Bernard Kinsey was a member of the band and met his wife at FAMU.
