Deputies Involved
In Unrelated Shootings
Two Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies were in- volved in shootings last Thurs- day. The shootings were unrelated.
The first shooting took place after deputies received a 9-1-1 call about a man with a gun knocking on doors and ringing doorbells. The man left the area before deputies arrived. He and a female were later lo- cated in a field.
When deputies came in con- tact with the van, Guy Rus- sell McDonald reportedly got out of the van with the gun in his hand. McDonald re- fused to drop the gun after several warnings.
In fear of his life, Deputy Mijail Sequeira, 31, fired his service revolver and struck McDonald one time. Mc- Donald was transported to a local hospital by helicopter. He was treated for non-life threat- ening injuries and later dis- charged.
The female passenger, who police have not identified, was also transported to the hospi- tal for conditions not related to the shooting. No other in- juries were reported in the shooting.
Police said McDonald, 49, was arrested and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Deputy Sequeira was placed on administrative du- ties in keeping with depart- mental policy, pending the outcome of the investigation.
In the second shooting, Deputy David Cloud, 28, was on routine patrol when he observed a suspicious person in the 5300 block of Brushy Creek Drive. Deputy Cloud followed the individual for a short distance before getting out of his vehicle.
Police said the deputy at- tempted to talk to Babak Payrow, but Babak began to aggressively approach him. Deputy Cloud told Babak to get back several times.
Babak, 35, is alleged to have pulled a 10” screwdriver from a bag. Deputy Cloud then pulled his service re- volver and shot Babak at least once.
Babak was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
