 FAMU Alumnus Rides Cross Country To Raise Funds For Scholarship

Last month, Rick Kinsey launched his trip across country on his motorcycle. He began his ride from Tampa to Oakland, California, on June 15th. His goal is to raise $10,000 for the Rattlers in Arms Endowed Scholarship Fund.
During his endurance ride, Kinsey rode through Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Nevada, and California.
Donations exceeded over $12 thousand dollars for the Rattlers in Arms Endowed Scholarship Fund.
The Rattlers in Arms Endowed Scholarship fund was established April 2019. It is a $100,00.00 en- dowed fund that will provide scholarships for students attending FAMU.
The Rattlers in Arms are 5 retired officers who were in Army ROTC and graduates. They are retired Colonels Sam Driver, Keith Stubbs, Miciotto Johnson, and Lt. Colonels, Dr. Maurice S. Pickett, Rick Kinsey.
“Our mission and goal is to provide students at FAMU scholarships. After serving our country, we came together to serve students attending FAMU.

Rick Kinsey is riding across the country to raise money for the Rattlers in Arms Endowed Scholarship Fund.
Stubbs, Pickett, and Lorenzo Spencer have been providing scholarships for graduating high school sen- iors since 2016.
“This year, along with our FAMU NAA Chapter, Plant City, we provided 11 scholarships to high school students who will be attending FAMU in the Fall. To date, we have giving over $20 thousand to students.”
In addition to the Rattler in Arms Endowed Schol- arship Fund, Kinsey has established the Samuel and Alma Kinsey, Matthew Bien-Aime and the Mary Her- ring Endowed Scholarship Funds at FAMU.
The Samuel and Alma Kinsey in honor of their parents and the Matthew Bien-Aime Funds in honor of his son’s best friend, are for students from the Tampa Bay area that are currently attending FAMU. The Mary Herring Endowed Fund is for Army ROTC Cadets.
Giving back to the community is nothing new. Kin- sey said, “The Titan Nation alumni have been giving back to Tampa Bay Technical High School since 2015. Every year, we provide the athletic program donations as well as volunteers.
“Additionally, we give back to the community at back to school drives, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The LTC(R) Rick Kinsey scholarship provides stu- dents from Tampa Bay Tech, Blake and Middleton High School scholarships to attend FAMU.
