Insurgent - The first movie ‘Divergent’ was very good and made $288M worldwide. The second Di- vergent series “Insurgent” stepped up the action. Beat- rice Prior (Shailene Woodley) had to fight her inner emo- tions and a powerful govern- ment (Kate Winslett, Jai Courtney, Mekhi Phifer), which threatened to destroy her society. She gets help from her boyfriend (Theo James) who is willing to die for her. Action-packed, and if you can, watch it in 3-D. En- joyed it! No. 1 at box office. Made $52M U.S. / Foreign $47M. Cinderella (2015) - Dis- ney’s theme ‘Have Courage And Be Kind” was a winner in this classic fairy tale. The story follows the life of young Ella (Lily James) whose fa- ther remarries following the death of her mother. Her cruel stepmother (Cate Blanchette) and daughters mistreat Ella throughout her life. She finds hope when she meets a stranger (Richard Madden) in the forest. Adults and young teen girls will enjoy this film. Made $122M. (Budget $95M). ****
Run All Night - A mob- ster hit man Jimmy Conlon (Liam Neeson) has one night to figure out how to save his son, Mike (Joel Kinnaman), from the mob boss (Ed Har- ris), who wants Mike to pay for the death of his son. This crime thriller was a real nail biter. Neeson is back on top after the disappointing ‘Taken 3’. Common also stars as the assassin on the hunt for Conlon’s son. Must-see! Made $19M. (Budget $50M). ****
Chappie - Director Neil Blomkamp (District 9) brings to life the first robot named Chappie (Sharito Copley) with the ability to think and feel for himself. Chappie has to learn how to survive the mean streets of South Africa. Also starring Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel and Sigourney Weaver. Very violent. This movie started slow, but ended up as a well-written film. Surprisingly, good, nice twist at the end. Must see for sci-fi fans. Made $28M. (Budget $49M). ****
Focus - A con man (Will Smith) introduces a young woman (Margot Robbie) to the tricks of his trade. Three years later, the two see each other again in Argentina when he is asked by a race car billionaire to set-up a con on his rival owner. Must-see to learn how the con game busi- ness operates. The DUFF - A high school senior (Mae Whitman) finds out she has been labeled the DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) to her prettier, more popular friends. This teen movie was pretty funny. Your kids will enjoy this teen com- edy. Made $32M. (Budget $8.5M). ***1⁄2
McFarland, USA - A cross country coach (Kevin Costner) transform a team of runners into championship contenders. Surprisingly, very good sports film. Made $38M. (Budget N/A). ****
Fifty Shades Of Grey –
Based on the 100 million books sold, this drama/ro- mance is about a student, Anastasia (Dakota John) who meets a sexually tormented billionaire, Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), who goes through great lengths to break her down mentally and sexually. Note: Did he know he had her at “Hello.” This film was drama free. Some- one who read the books said that the drama will come in the next movie “50 Shades of Darkness.” Made $163M. Kingsman: The Secret Service – A British Spy or- ganizations (Colin Firth) re- cruits a street teen (Taron Egeton) into the agency training program to fight against a crazy tech genius (Samuel Jackson) and his ruthless bodyguard (Sofia Boutella), who are trying to control the world. This bloody, action adventure spared no one from the vio- lence. Must see! Made $114M. (Budget $81M). ****
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water - SpongeBob and the crew must travel to the surface in order to get the secret Krabby Patty formula from a pirate who stole it. Voiced by Tom Kenny and Antonio Bandera, this second SpongeBob movie falls way short from the first. Disappointed. Wait for it on DVD. Made $158M. (Budget $74M). **1⁄2
Jupiter Ascending - A genetically engineered war- rior (Channing Tatum) is sent to Earth to protect a young woman (Mila Kunis) who does not know she is a Queen on Jupiter. A power- ful family who lives on Jupiter is on a mission to kill her. This futuristic action film moves quick and the ef- fects are worth-seeing. Andy Wachowski (The Matrix) is the director.
