FAMU Graduates 700 At Fall Commencement

FAMU’s 7th President, Dr. Walter L. Smith and his wife, Mrs. Barbara Smith, were at the graduation to witness a grandson who re- ceived his Master’s degree.
Brittany Saffold was among the 2016 Fall graduates, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Brittany will begin grad school in the Fall, ma- joring in Child Psychology with a minor in Hearing Impaired.

Florida A&M University (FAMU) alumnus Jemal Omar Gibson returned to his alma mater to address nearly 700 graduates during the fall commencement ceremony. The event was Friday, Decem-
ber 9, at 6 p.m., at FAMU’s Al- fred Lawson Multipurpose Gymnasium and Teaching Center.
Gibson is a talented au- thor, international motiva- tional speaker, corporate
executive, career coach, and philanthropist. In his award- winning book, “Drugs: My Curse My Savior,” Gibson re- counts how he arrived at FAMU with $20 in his pocket, no financial aid, no housing,
and a dream.
The book is a motivational
memoir, which chronicles his life from childhood through adulthood, navigating the world of illegal drugs and the legal drug industry. His sec-
ond book, “The 3 Spirations,” is an inspirational, self-help book due to be released in 2017.
