A 19-year-old Clearwater man was sentenced to prison last Friday. He pleaded guilty in October to DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident involving death, and DUI with property damage. His attorney re- quested he be sentenced as a youthful offender.
However, Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Christopher Sabella sen- tenced Adrian Dothe to serve 13 years in prison.
The accident took place on January 25th, on Courtney Campbell Causeway. Police said Dothe was driving more than 100 miles an hour when he lost control of the vehicle, struck the guard rail and then another car.
Dothe stated that he had drank several beers and smoked marijuana at the Pal- ladium Nightclub, 5305 S. Ar- menia Avenue. Dothe, his girlfriend, Leidy San Juan, 18, and two of their friends, Jonathan Mendoza-Pena and David Mendoza drove away from the club.
Mendoza-Pena and Mendoza, who were cousins, sat in the backseat and did not have seatbelts on at the time of the accident.
